Half of UK small and medium-sized businesses now touch AI.
Only 1 in 10 have put it to work.

The official numbers — from the ONS, the government's own adoption research, and the British Chambers of Commerce — and what the gap between them means for your business.

5.64m

small businesses in the UK — 99.2% of all private-sector firms (gov.uk, 2025)

54%

now use AI in some form — roughly 3 million businesses (British Chambers of Commerce, 2026)

11%

use it deeply enough to automate day-to-day operations — roughly 600,000 (BCC, 2026)

The trajectory

Adoption has more than doubled in 3 years

If it feels like the business down the road suddenly answers enquiries faster and posts more often than you, this chart is why.

Share of UK firms using AI, British Chambers of Commerce annual research (94% of the 2026 sample were small and medium-sized businesses). The ONS tracks the same curve with a stricter question: 9% of all businesses in September 2023, 23% by late September 2025.

The catch

Using a chatbot isn't the same as being run on one

Ask "does anyone here ever use an AI tool?" and you get half the country. Ask "has AI taken over a repeatable job — replies, admin, posting, reporting?" and the number collapses. Typing into a chatbot still costs you the evening. A system that answers, books and posts on its own gives it back.

Where it earns its keep

The jobs it takes are ones you'd recognise

Among businesses getting value from AI, the government's 2025 research found it lands on the same work almost every time — the repeatable jobs that eat your week:

Marketing — posts, copy, campaigns72%
Administration — emails, documents, scheduling72%
IT and internal tooling64%

And once it's in, it stays in: 80% of adopters use AI at least weekly, and 53% say they use it constantly.

Start with 1 job

Which of these would you hand over first?

Stop losing leads to slow replies

The 9pm enquiry gets answered at 9pm — and booked before breakfast, not lost to whoever replied first.

Get your evenings back

The quotes, follow-ups and paperwork that keep you at the kitchen table at 10pm get drafted for you — you approve, it goes.

Stay visible without writing a word

Posts written, scheduled and published on your accounts — no more posting guilt, no Sunday-night scramble.

Know where you stand each morning

A short briefing with your day, your numbers and what needs chasing — before your first coffee.

You don't need all 4. The businesses doing this well started with the 1 that hurt most.

Where we come in

We don't sell AI from the sidelines.
We run on it.

Around 3 million UK small and medium-sized businesses now use AI in some form — but for most, that means someone pasting things into a chatbot. Roughly 600,000 have gone further: connected it to the phones, inboxes, calendars and spreadsheets their business runs on, so the repeatable work happens without them. The 2.4 million in between aren't sceptics — they're short of time and wary of open-ended bills.

Those 2 worries are the 2 things our whole process is built around:

  • A fixed price — agreed before any work starts. No open-ended build costs.
  • Live in days — starting with the 1 job most likely to save time or recover lost work.
  • You own it — the workflows, access, logins and documentation are yours from the start.
  • Nothing without approval — it asks you before anything is sent, booked, published or changed.

No new dashboard to learn. No technical knowledge needed. And our own accounts are written, scheduled and published by the same kind of system we'd build for you — go and look; it takes 10 seconds.
